China International Fair for Trade in Services The 14th International Service Trade Forum Successful End

The 14th International Service Trade Forum, hosted by Beijing International Studies University (BISU) and China Association of International Trade, was successfully held in Beijing National Conference Center on September 7th. It was organized by China Association of International Trade Specialized Committee for Service Trade, China Institute for Service Trade and Beijing Institute for International Communication. As an important activity of China International Fair for Trade in Services, the forum adheres to the purpose of continuously building a high-quality and widely connected exchange and interaction platform for 13 years, and has always been at the forefront of theoretical research and innovative practice. The epidemic situation can not stop our enthusiasm for interaction and exchange. With online and offline ways, this Forum gathered more than 100 leaders from the fields of government, society, researchers, and industry scholars at home and abroad, and connected many distinguished guests, such as the Coordinator Networks and Partnerships, Creative Economy Programme, UNCTAD. We hope that in the future, with digital development as the wings, will jointly contribute to the development of the world economy and the exploration of world cooperation.

On the Forum

President Xi Jinping made some proposals at 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). Xi said that all countries should jointly foster an open and inclusive environment for cooperation; all countries should work together to invigorate momentum for cooperation driven by innovation; all countries should work together to break new ground in win-win cooperation. We should comply with the development trend of digitization , network and intelligence, and work together to bridge the “digital divide” and boost the process of digitization of service trade. The theme of this forum is“Digital Creative Industry Empowers Global Economy Development”, which is in line with the current environment. Trade in services is increasingly becoming an important force in the development of the world economy, however, the world economy will be promoted by the great potential of digital economy.

Opening ceremony hosted by Professor Cheng Wei, Vice President of BISU

Professor Cheng Wei, Vice President of BISU presided over the opening ceremony of the Forum. Jin Xu, President of China Association of International Trade; Gu Xiaoyuan, Chairperson University Council of BISU and the Dean of Beijing Institute for International Communication delivered speeches as representatives of the hosts. Gu Xiaoyuan described the development of BISU and the Forum by "Persistant", "Opened" and "Shared". With the strong support of leaders at all levels and guests from all walks of life, BISU and its service trade have grown steadily. In the future, BISU will fully support the "international service trade and cultural trade" with prominent interdisciplinary attributes to become the "third pole" of discipline growth, adhere to the original aspiration and mission, adhere to the opening and sharing, and actively give play to the resource advantages to serve the development of Beijing and the whole country.

In his speech, President Jin Xu highly affirmed the work of China Institute for Service Trade and China Association of International Trade Specialized Committee for Service Trade since its establishment. He said that based on the current industrial development foundation, the forum would carry out dialogue and exchange between China and foreign countries in the fields of new generation information technology, digital creativity, cultural and trade innovation and development. The Forum would be committed to further promote China's digital transformation and upgrading, and make contributions to China's greater economic development achievements.

Liu Peng, honorary president of the Chinese Olympic Committee and honorary president of Beijing Institute for International Communication, said in his speech that Beijing Institute for International Communication of BISU had made a lot of fruitful work in research, think tank construction, personnel training, etc., which had contributed to the development of the country and Beijing, especially 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Taking the Olympic Games as an opportunity, sports service industry would become a new type of business with great vitality, showing great economic benefits and social value. It was hoped that in the future, the professional team of BISU would continue to make use of its own advantages to further the theoretical and practical research in the field of sports service industry, and continue to maintain extensive and fruitful cooperation with relevant national and regional government agencies, industry associations and colleges in consultation and advice, enterprise services, think tank building, talent training and other aspects.

Wang Huiying, Associate Counsel, Department of Trade in Services and Commercial Services, Ministry of Commerce, said that in the past years, China Institute for Service Trade of BISU had continuously developed the research in the frontier fields of service trade and cultural trade, providing high-quality intellectual support for the government to make scientific decisions and for the enterprises to develop markets. The Ministry of Commerce would also continue to give support to fully tap the potential and vitality of emerging fields such as digital creative industries, so as to cultivate new momentum for high-quality economic development.

Carolina kuntana, Coordinator Networks and Partnerships, Creative Economy Programme, UNCTAD, sent congratulations online from Geneva and exchanged greetings with Gu Xiaoyuan, Chairperson University Council of BISU. She said digitization had a profound impact on the structure of global cultural trade. The emergence of new technologies not only enriched the content production of cultural industry, but also brought new business models. She looked forward to maintaining pragmatic cooperation with BISU in the field of digital creativity and promoting the development of global digital creative industry.

Szonja Buslig, Cultural Counsellor of Hungarian Embassy in China, and the Director of Beijing Hungarian Cultural Institute, said in her speech that Hungary attached great importance to digital development, especially in the field of education, where digital tools were indispensable. She believed that although there was a long way to go, mutual respect, knowledge exchange and international cooperation would be the best tools people could use. This Forum was a good example.

Zhang Miao, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice Chairman, Beijing City Federation of Social Science Circles, and Director of Beijing Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science said in his speech that Beijing Research Institute of Cultural Trade based on BISU’s 20 years of scientific research exploration and accumulation in the field of cultural trade, had formed the characteristics of international cultural trade theory and practice research. The numerous important research results had promoted the promulgation and implementation of cultural trade policies at the national and Beijing municipal levels.

Chen Jian, General Consultant of China Institute for Service Trade, and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Deep Integration of Digital Technology and Service Trade to Boost the Double Cycle and Giving New Impetus to Global Economic Development”. He affirmed the work and achievements made by China Institute for Service Trade since its establishment, and said that the development of digital creativity and services needed to focus on "One Belt, One Road" digital consumption in the future. We should spread the high-quality digital cultural and creative content in China to the countries along the road, focusing on developing the technical services of digital creative industries, better serving the digital culture and creativity to go abroad, and creating an international ecological circle of digital creative industries, forming a mutually beneficial development to promote the healthy and innovative development of global digital creative industry.

Gu Xiaoyuan, Chairperson University Council of BISU and the Dean of Beijing Institute for International Communication, announced the official opening of the Global Digital Creative Industry Cloud Expo. By building a virtual reality exhibition hall, the Cloud Expo provided an online virtual reality platform that could be displayed all year round for participating enterprises, and provided enterprises with three-dimensional publicity of projects and products, as well as set up a new platform for the cooperation and exchange of enterprises in various countries. In the future, the 20th China virtual reality Conference (China VR 2020) would be jointly held by Beijing International Studies University and the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems, BeiHang University.

At Forum Closing ceremony, Professor Li Xiaomu, Vice President of BISU, concluded that the Forum set a number of records. It was the first time of holding the Forum on trade in services online and offline simultaneously in history, and it was also the longest lasting meeting, connecting Asia, Europe, America and Oceania, bringing together many old and new friends. Through the Forum, people would focus on economic innovation and development, keep up with the pace of service trade between China and the world. It was hoped to produce more innovative ideas and high-level achievements in the future. The team would work together with everyone on this platform.

Witnessed by all the leaders and guests, Beijing International Studies University made strategic cooperation agreements with Shenzhen Lofree Culture Co., Ltd, and China Institute for Cultural Trade Research made strategic cooperation agreements with International Institute for Urban Development of Beijing as well as the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems of BeiHang University, opening a new chapter of cooperation under the new situation.
