The CPC Central Committee and the State Council approved the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality to jointly host China (Beijing) International Fair for Trade in Services (referred to as the Beijing Fair) in 2012, in order to enhance the international competitiveness of China's service industry and trade in services, and give full play to the role of service industry and trade in services in accelerating the transformation of economic development mode. It was renamed China International Fair for Trade in Services in 2019. The short name for China International Fair for Trade Services was renamed from "Beijing Fair" to "CIFTIS" in 2020.
CIFTIS (including the former Beijing Fair) has been successfully held for eight sessions, which has become the global largest comprehensive fair for trade in services, the leading fair for trade in services in China, and also a major exhibition platform for China's opening-up. It is playing a positive role in spreading ideas, connecting supply and demand, sharing business opportunities, and promoting common development in the field of international trade in services.
The CPC Central Committee and the State Council are very concerned about the development of CIFTIS. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered keynote speeches at the Global Trade in Services Summit of CIFTIS in 2020 and 2021, and sent a congratulatory letter to the CIFTIS 2019. Premier Li Keqiang, Vice Premiers Han Zheng and Hu Chunhua, and then Premier Wen Jiabao and then Vice Premier Wang Yang attended the previous events and provided work guidance.
